Today’s hairstyles are simply beautiful and most people usually go to their personal hairstylist to have it done professionally. One of the oldest but still trendy and beautiful hairstyles is hair braiding. Although cornrows, twist, locs, dreads, box braids, and weaves look fabulous on most women it is also one of the causes of thinning edges and hair loss. This type of hair loss is “Traction Alopecia” and can happen as frequently as the same day that your hair is braided. You probably didn’t realize the damage hair braiding causes by excessive pulling, twisting, and trauma to your hair follicle. I’ve been a cosmetologist for over 30 years and have braided many women and men hair but at the time I did not realize I was causing more damage than good.
When I learned about traction alopecia my obligation to my clients as a Trichologist became greater because of what I now know. Have you ever heard that saying ” if you know better, you should do better,” well, I immediately began shampooing and treating my clients scalp and hair with Plant- based products that readily absorbed into their scalp and nourished their hair follicles. My recommendation to anyone suffering from (Traction Alopecia) is:
-Consult with a Trichologist
-Stop braiding, weaving, twisting which will continue hair breakage
-Drink plenty of water
-Make healthier food choices
